mens skin care organic product advice
  • Skin Care is no different for men
  • The cardinal rule in all skin care is 'care' and its importance is no different for men.

It's easy to take your skin for granted and men are much more likely to do this than women.

healthy skincare advice for men

Men's physiology makes their skin care needs different to women's. Male skin tends to be thicker and although the sebaceous glands are smaller in men, testosterone generates a relatively higher amount of secretions. This is why men's skin is oiler and more prone to acne, blackheads and blemishes.

Daily shaving is also an aggravating factor.

Not only does it destroy the skin's protective film it also causes nicks and cuts. Thus the skin is sensitised, dehydrated and irritated.

Just as with women, men's skin needs to be protected effectively and daily. Firstly, choose a good razor and a shaving gel or cream that yields a close shave, kills bacteria, softens follicles and leaves the skin feeling smooth.

After being scoured with a razor, men's skin needs a gentle, soothing moisturiser. One that won't clog pores and help heal nicks or cuts.

Avoid using any shaving products that contain alcohol and parabens as these strip the natural oils from the skin leaving it dry and irritated.

My Husband used to have very irritated skin from shaving, causing infected hairs and flaky skin. I knew I had to get him off the foamy shave cream so I brought him Sanctum's Mens Shave Gel and their Moisturising Cream. When he ran out he had no choice but to use the new products. It took a couple of weeks but he noticed a difference and has continued to use it since.

Just between you and me, he now also uses OrganicSpa's Wrinkle Defence as a moisturiser, he wants the best looking skin in another 30 years time.
