What is Dry Needling?
Dry Needling is a relatively new and exciting form of treatment available to aid dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal system. During this therapy, super-fine needles similar to those used in acupuncture, are inserted into the skin to directly affect the myofascial system (muscles and connective tissues). The aim is to release chronically tight muscles and also muscles in spasm, better known as trigger points or ‘knots’.
Dry needling works by desensitise these trigger points, increasing blood supply and enhancing the production of endorphins. This restores healthy function to the effected tissues, helping you to feel better, quicker.
Can I book in for Dry Needling?
Dry Needling is usually implemented in conjunction with Remedial Massage or a Musculoskeletal treatment rather than as a stand-alone therapy.
As skin penetration occurs during this treatment technique; it is therefore essential that your suitability for Dry Needling be determined by your therapist. If both you and your therapist feel it is an appropriate technique for your condition, you can most certainly include Dry Needling with your massage treatment.
