remedial, deep tissue & sports massaging technique

remedial massage,  deep tissue massage
& sports massage

Remedial, Sports or Deep Tissue Massage is an intensive form of massage that aims to address the cause of pain and dysfunction. Through slow strokes and deep finger pressure the Massage Therapist uses a combination of soft tissue techniques including trigger point therapy, myofascial release, stretching and exercise prescription to relieve pain or soreness, improve joint movement and assist the body’s natural healing process.

Over the course of a day our muscles contract and relax many times. However, accidents, repetitive actions, poor posture and everyday stresses can form permanent, sometimes painful, tension in our muscles. Even worse, around any painful site, muscles automatically contract to support and protect the area. Any tight muscle can’t hold much fluid which means reduced circulation and accumulation of irritating waste products.

Over time, areas with poor circulation form trigger points.

Trigger points are highly irritable spots (commonly called knots) that can refer pain elsewhere in the body. For example, a trigger point in your hip can refer pain down your leg.

Through therapeutic massage, muscle tension and trigger points can be relieved allowing circulation to return bringing with it healing nutrients and oxygen to the area. A deeply relaxing massage can provide a much needed break to everyday stresses helping to calm your nerves and allowing muscles throughout your body to let go and relax.

Remedial Massage or Deep Tissue Massage may be of particular benefit for those suffering from:

  • headaches
  • migraines
  • back or neck pain
  • frozen shoulder
  • sciatica
  • general stiffness or
those looking to improve their sports performance and recovery time.

hot stone, hotstone massage technique

hot stone massage

Hot Stone Massage is a deeply relaxing and therapeutic treatment, which uses heated, smooth, volcanic stones placed on key points of the body. The stones have an extraordinary energy and with the right combination of heat, oil and an experienced therapist, the treatment is deeply relaxing.

The massage is a slow rhythmic, top to toe experience. The long, slow, firm strokes performed allow the heat from the stones a greater chance to penetrate past the superficial tissues to reach deep muscle layers.

The heat from the stones increases blood flow to the area enabling deep muscular tension to be released. Like normal massage the pressure used is adjusted to suit your comfort level. You can request light, medium, firm or deep pressure.

The basalt stones we use are sourced from South America and were originally molten lava. Basalt, a composition of many minerals, is particularly high in iron, which is why the stones absorb and release heat extremely well.

Unfortunately Hot Stone Massage is not suitable for everyone.
Anyone who has a loss of touch or heat sensation, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Peripheral Vascular Disorder, Cancer, High Blood Pressure, is Pregnant or has suffered damage or trauma to the nervous system should avoid having a Hot Stone Massage.

Of course, it stands to reason that anyone suffering from an acute skin condition such as sunburn, psoriasis, skin cancer, burns, dermatitis, eczema, shingles or herpes should also avoid a Hot Stone Massage.
