Soy Candles vs Paraffin Wax Candles
Traditionally candles and melts are made from paraffin wax a by-product of petroleum refining. Yes they are made from crude oil refining! These candles release harmful substances like toluene and benzene into the air mainly because burning candles does not produce a high enough heat to combust these substances. Candles and Melts made from soy wax do not contain these harmful substances and therefore would be a better alternative for candle lovers.
Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The flakes are then pressed to release the oil. The oil then undergoes a process whereby some of the fatty acids in the oil are converted from unsaturated to saturated making the oil solid at room temperature.
Soy’s greatest advantage is that it is completely renewable and biodegradable!
Soy Melts
Soy melts are an alternative to use in oil burners. They are suitable for both electric vaporizers or candle oil burners. Good quality soy melts throw their scent just as far as their paraffin counterparts and last for the same amount of time. The benefit here your soy melt will re-solidify whenever you allow it to cool between use which makes it much safer to manage than the traditional oil & water mix!
After all fragrance has been evaporated, simply reheat for 30 seconds until the soy wax slips from the burner. You will be guilt free, as you drop it in the bin, as soy is biodegradable.
